“Ewww, why do you always do that?” I asked her as I sat eating my burger. It was lunch time and I once again as if it were a commitment, was skyping with Zaire. Today she wore a colorful beanie and she wore make up. She looked beautiful to me as always. She was eating spaghetti, well more like playing with it. Nasty, but I still loved her.
“What? You mean this?!” She replied and placed the long thin string near the entrance of her nostril.
“Stop it.” I giggled. She laughed along and we then ate in silence. It’s 9 p.m. in Holland so I know she has to sleep soon. I watched her while she ate.
“You know you’re so beautiful to me right?” I then asked her and she looked up at me. I saw her eyes twinkle so I knew she was gonna cry, which for Zaire isn’t normal.
“You really think so?”
“I know so. You’re my girlfriend. You deserve to know that. “
“Awwww… Thanks babe.” She replied and smiled which made me smile along.
“Awwww… Thanks babe.” She replied and smiled which made me smile along.
“I love you.”
“I love you more.”
“And I love you most.” I replied and blew her a kiss. She then began telling me stories of happenings in the hospital. Some made me laugh while others made me kind of sad. At one point I was so taken by her beauty that I was just staring.
“Babe….. Baby…. Gabby….. Gabriella!” She yelled at me.
“Uh.. sorry.” I replied and blushed.
“Take a picture, it lasts longer.” We both laughed and ate.

I finally got enough confidence to walk up to Gabriella. She was on a table by herself and from what I could see, she was laughing at something on her phone. That beautiful smile that was plastered across her face. Just perfect. It made me shy all over again.
“Hey baby.” Destiny said while clinging to my neck. It startled me, because I didn’t even see when she popped up.
“Destiny, we spoke about this already. I am not your baby anymore. Get over it.”
“Still, you know you still love me Blake.” She said and pouted which made her blue eyes pierce into mine.
“No I don’t, so leave me alone.” I replied and gently moved her so I could walk to Gabriella.
“Fine, just know she’ll never be as good as me.” She said and it made me stop in my tracks.
“No, that’s okay. You know why?” I asked and she watched me confused.” Because she’ll be 10x better than you.” She looked at me shocked and stormed off.
I then resumed walking. As I got closer, I could hear her laugh. It made my heart beat speed up. Damn, if she only knew what she was doing to me.
“Ohh babe, stop it. I’m gonna pee myself.” She said and continued laughing. My smile though, quickly faded. A pang of hurt replaced it. She had a boyfriend?
I stopped and took a couple of deep breaths. I then walked up to her and tapped her shoulder. Her beautiful hazel orbs looked into mine and it was as if I were in a trance and I think she was too. We stared at each other for a while before someone started yelling her name. We both looked up startled at her phone.
“What happened?” She asked the light skinned girl on the screen.
“You keep zoning out on me.” The girl replied and pouted.
“Sorry babe.”
“No problem. I have to go. Bye baby. Love you.” The girl said and blew a kiss.
“Bye. Love you too.”
She signed out of Skype then looked over at me.
“Sorry about that.” She said and smiled at me. “So what’s up?”
“I uh… I … I wanted to ask you something.”
“Sure.”
“That’s your girlfriend?”
“Yeah and also my bestfriend.” She replied and beamed. I felt my heart sink.
“Gabriella…”
“Yeah?”
“Can I have your number?”
“Sure, you’re my buddy.” She replied and handed me her phone so I could put in my number. She did the same in mine. When I got my phone back, I saw she named herself “Gabby J”.
“Aww you named yourself M.B.M. <3 “ She said and smiled once again.
“Yeah.” I said and looked down.
“What’s wrong?” She asked and touched my arm lightly. I looked up and watched her facial features. I couldn’t help myself. I cupped her face into my hands and I pecked her lips before swiftly walking off.
“What the hell?” I heard her say behind me. I just kept walking. I couldn’t bare to see her. I just couldn’t believe she wouldn’t be mine.

I couldn’t stop thinking about Gabriella. She’s just different from any other girl at school. She’s smart and beautiful and has this wittiness about her that just makes me smile. Her laugh, it was so heart-warming. It made you want to laugh along. She’s so kind unlike Destiny. I really don’t understand why I ever dated her. Even if it just lasted 2 months. I let her beauty take over and that wasn’t a smart decision. She kept talking about petty little things in which I had absolutely no interest.
I was really shy speaking to Gabby, I just feared she’d tell me no or thought that I was joking. Today when she was by me, it was as if the house were complete. It was just me and her. I learnt a couple things about her that were mind blowing. Like I had no idea she spoke another language and that she’s very flexible.
I should’ve kept my mouth shut at dinner though. I could tell that it shook up her entire mood and the atmosphere in the room felt so heavy in a weird way. I didn’t want her to like be all depressed about it even though it may not seem so right now. Destiny does that with almost every girl at school. She feels that she’s the best and that everyone should be reminded of that. I really hope Gabriella will forgive me for saying that. I said it to help her, not to purposely upset her.
I took up my phone and scrolled through my contacts. I didn’t see her name. Damn, I forgot to ask her for her number. I was about to throw my phone back on my bed when one of my homies called.
“Blake.” I answered.
“Eyo homie, we bout to shoots some hoops. You coming?” My friend Tafari asked.
I looked at the time. 8:15. “Uhm, sure thing. See yall in 15 then.”
“Kool” he replied and I hung up. I quickly showered and got my basketball things. I walked downstairs and my parents still weren’t home. I decided to leave a note and then rushed out the door. It’s about 10 minutes walking to the basketball court.
When I got there, my homies Tafari, Jelani and Braxton were already dribbling up and down the court. We dabbed each other up and then played for like an hour. We then took a break.
“So what’s new with yall?” Braxton asked looking at me and the others.
“Nothing much. Just chilling.” Jelani replied and Braxton shook his head in agreement. I was too gone with my thoughts of Gabriella. I faintly heard them call my name. When Braxton emptied his water on my head is when I finally looked up.
“What?!” I shouted irritated.
“Yow chill son. We asked you something.”
“Sorry man, what was it?” I apologized.
“I asked”, Jelani said,” So what’s new?”
“Oh nothing much.”
“You’re lying. Something is on your mind.” Braxton replied.
I sighed. “So I think I like this girl at our school. She was over today at my house.”
“Oh nice. Bro scored himself a shawdy.” Tafari shouted and they started playfully punching me and laughing.
“So who is she?” He then asked.
“Gabriella…” I replied with a smile and you could literally hear a pin drop on the court. All of them watched me with funny faces.
“Yow, ain’t that girl like handicap or something?” Jelani asked. I watched him pissed.
“And so what, she’s still one of the prettiest and the smartest and the kindest though, so fall back.”
“Chill bro. He didn’t mean to offend you.” Braxton said tapping me on the shoulder. I rolled my eyes and took a sip of my water.
“But seriously though, that would be weird to be seen with her. Like you ain’t scared ?”
“The only thing I’m scared about right now, is that I make her unhappy. I really like her. You guys just gotta respect that as my friends.”
“Don’t worry, we got you.” Tafari said and they nodded in agreement.
We played for another hour and by 10:30 pm, I got home. Still no parents. I hated this. We were so rich, but yet my parents were never home. I missed the old days back in Kansas City. We were really a family. Now, it feels like I’m on my own already.
I took another shower and got out another pair of boxers. I then got into bed. I saw something sparkling at the foot of my bed. I got up and went to it. It was a heart shaped diamond earring. Gabriella was wearing it. I’ll give it to her tomorrow. That would also be my excuse to talk to her if she’s angry.
I fell asleep thinking about everything that happened today including Gabriella. “Gabriella, if you’re listening. It’s okay to be afraid.” I whispered into the night.

18. Regular Day at school or was it ?
It’s been a month sinds the call from Zaire. It left Gabriella bit worried still but she still felt refreshed abit. She was a tad bit happier and stopped cutting… for now. She no longer felt that Nicki was hiding something from her. She has now started attending an international private arts school. She follows drama, singing and literature. All of her regular classes are in Dutch. She’s being bullied at school by one girl by the name of Destiny. Why this girl is teasing her, because she looks so different from everyone else, her special shoes, her glasses which she wears to see far away, her height, her accent and most of all her back with her scoliosis. Gabriella never let it get to her, but it was slowly eating her inside. She has no friends but knows a lot of people in school. She mostly sits alone at lunch and talks to Zaire.
The relationship between Nicki and Safaree has been going well. They’ve decided to keep it out of the media, so basically not much people know about it. Also that Gabriella is their daughter. Not even the students at Gabby’s school know. All they know is that Gabby has wealthy parents’ sinds she’s in a private school, and not just any private school, the ‘Alfa Talented International Institution’ ( A.T.I.I.). Nothing more. Nicki had her driven to school by a chauffeur, so really no one had a clue. Gabriella is still able to do normal things without being bothered and most of all no paparazzi. She liked that. Most of the kids at her school had to deal with that every day.

The bell has just rung indicating that it was third period, in which, I had English literature class. I really enjoy this class. Mom doesn’t really get it, but then again I never write for her. I quickly gather my stuff and head to class. I had this assignment to do about a particular feeling. I chose loneliness. I saw Destiny bossing a freshman around up the hall. I rolled my eyes and continued walking. I swear this girl has no life and to make it worst she’s in almost all my art’s classes which were honestly my favorite classes. I hated that we both were juniors; I didn’t really like having to be around her. I just tried to kill her with kindness, hopefully one day she’ll stop. Hopefully.
Here’s a little info on what she looks like. She’s about 5’4. She’s from England. Her dad is a famous Lawyer. She has a pale complexion with pink lips which is always in a small pout. She has piercing blue eyes and long straight blond hair. We share the same birthday and she’s the bragging type. Always talking about daddy this and daddy that. I hated it.
“Well look who it is, little miss crooked shrimp.” She exclaimed in fake delight and the girls of her clique laughed. I never showed her any emotion. I just kept my cool.
“Hi Destiny, ready for class?”
“Haha, look you guys, the shrimp is talking to me.” She said to her girlfriends and laughed. She then turned to me. “Well actually no, I didn’t do my paper but I’m sure you did yours.” She said to me and made a baby face.
“Geek.” I heard one of her friends whisper and all of them giggled. I kept a small smile on my face.
“Well, see you in class.” I said and turned to walk to class. Destiny held my bag, which almost made me fall back. My glasses also nearly fell from my face.
“Hey, stop that.” I nearly yelled at her. She and her friends just laughed in my face.
“Aw, are you scared?”
“No, but stop it. Just leave me alone.”
“Okay I will, just give me your paper.”
“No.”
“Then, best believe your stuff is going into the toilet.” She replied and bit my lip. I always did two papers. Both on the same topic. I just felt that I could never tell which one was better. I sighed and gave her one of my papers. Her friends laughed in my face. She dropped my bag and all my books fell out. That just made all of them laugh harder. I felt small, but I couldn’t let her see that.
The tardy bell rang and I finally got myself together. I opened my compact mirror and checked my face. No tears. Good. Let’s continue.
I walked through the door and Mr. Maacentouch looked up at me and smiled. I smiled back and took a seat.
“So, I’m not going to write you up because I know you probably have a good reason why you’re late, am I right?” he asked me.
“Yeah.” I answered and gave him a small smile. Destiny rolled her eyes and whispered, “Kiss-up” at me.
I rolled my eyes and gave him my paper. I wrote my name on top.
“Okay class, I’m going to need you to write a paragraph about this picture.” He said and held up a picture a woman holding her baby and walking with no shoes across a dessert. My mind immediately began roaring with ideas. I loved doing that. Some of the class, including Destiny, groaned. She then got up and told the kid that was sitting next to me to get up. The kid, without hesitation, did and she sat down. She wrote down a note and passed it to me. I rolled my eyes and bit the inside of my cheeks before reading it.
“You better let me see your paper when you’re done. Am not failing this class.”
I rolled my eyes and got up. I threw the paper in the garbage and took out my notebook. I began right away.
She was searching for him. Where was he? Her baby cried for him every day and she felt lonely without him. His touch, his scent, his voice. She called out to him. He never replied but she never gave up. She believed he was still out there, calling out for her. She just had to keep looking. She no longer had sandals on her feet or her baby. They walked it completely blunt. She and her baby were tired and hungry. But she pushed on. She wasn’t going to stop. No, not until she found… him.
It was short but I liked it very much. I looked up to the teacher. His eyebrows were crinkled in confusion.
“Gabriella and Destiny please step to the front.”
We both got up and walked to the front of the class. I wasn’t worried but Destiny was.
“Okay now, I knew that Gabriella was going to talk about loneliness. I’m here looking at two papers on loneliness. Both from different perspectives but the writing technique is the same. Isn’t it weird?” he asked and looked at us hard, well mostly Destiny. “Destiny I thought I assigned you happiness?”
“Uh… you did… but I came up with nothing.” She explained.
“Oh, and did you and Gabriella work together?”
“Uh…. Yeah.” She replied and looked at me with a warning look. I sighed and looked at my feet.
“Is this true?” he asked me while looking me directly in the eyes.
“Uh…. I …. No.”
“I had a feeling. Destiny you have detention and now you have to write a double paper about happiness. You don’t write the same way as Gabriella, I don’t understand why you won’t put more effort into your writing.” He scolded her and she just rolled her eyes.
We went back into her seats but I felt as if something bad was going to happen. As I was reading over my work, I got another note from Destiny. It fell to the floor and the teacher saw.
“Hand it over Richardson.”
I slowly brought it to his desk. He opened it and read it.
“Destiny, you just earned yourself to the principal’s office.” He thundered and she immediately got her things and walked out of the class. I wave of relieve washed over me.
The kid that was originally sitting next to me came back and sat down. I looked him over from the corner of my eye. I bit my lip, I liked what I saw.
He has a caramel complexion. Dark brown orbs and jet black hair. He’s about 5’7 in height and from what I could tell, a chiseled body.
“Hi, I’m Maleek, but I go by Blake preferably.”
“Well.. I’m Gabriella but people who know me call me Gabby.” I replied and gave him a small smile.
“Kool….” He answered and we both stayed quiet and worked on our assignment. “So do you always have to walk with that?” He asked pointing at my pillow which I was sitting on.
“Yeah, it helps to lessen my back pain.”
“Cool, I like how you just carry it around and are not scared of what others have to say. It’s dope by the way.” I giggled before replying.
“Well, I need it so what does it matter what others say. I mean, they can’t help ease my pain, it can. And thanks.” I answered. I had a black and white cover on it to match my attire.
“Well… uhm… are you busy after school?”
“No.. “
“You wanna hang out or something.” He asked and rubbed the back of his neck un sure. It was mad cute. I never EVER made a boy blush so hard. And it scared me. Never had a boyfriend either but this might change all of that.
“S-sure, I’d like that.” I replied with a small smile. He returned the gesture.
We got back our grades from our homework and as always I got A+ on both of them. I beamed. I looked over at Maleek and he also had a big smile which turn to a frown when he saw his paper.
“What did you get?” I asked carefully.
“A-, I don’t understand, I put so much effort into this. How about you?”
“Uhm… A+ on both. But what did you do wrong then?”
“I don’t know, here take a look.” He said handing my his paper. I read it over, and I must say, it was really good. He writes about the emotion Anger as if it were something he faced every day. Something he wished he could do without but it was plastered all over him. I enjoyed reading it. Here and there I saw he had small mistakes.
“Nothing you can’t fix.” I said giving him back his paper.
“I always come second to you. It’s unfair.”
“Live is unfair, my friend.” I said with a british accent and we both laughed.
The rest of the day went by smoothly. I couldn’t wait for it to be over so that me and Blake could hang out. I was mentally squealing inside.

I don’t understand why Gabriella isn’t home yet. School finished over an hour ago. What was taking her so long? I called her driver and he said she was over at a friend’s house, but Gabriella never mentioned making friends to me. I decided to call her phone. She picked up on the 3rd ring. She was laughing at something.
“…Hahaha… Hold on… It’s my mom….. Hello?”
“Where are you?”
“Over at my new friend’s house.”
“Who is she?”
“She? It’s a boy.”
“Oh and you decided you weren’t going to tell me?”
“Ma, we’re not doing anything. Just chilling and watching a movie.” She whined.
“Mmhhmm?”
“I’m serious. He’s dropping me home at 6 so I’ll see you then.”
“Mmmmm…. We’re going to have a talk then.”
“Fine.”
“Bye.”
“Yeah.” She replied and hung up. I decided to start making dinner. I was going to make Tilapia fillet with corn, rice and vegetables. Simple but delicious.
At around 6, I heard the front door open and close. I heard two voices.
“Maleek, you really didn’t need to do this.” I heard Gabby say.
“It’s nothing. I don’t want you getting in trouble.” A male voice answered.
“Okay.”
They both walked into the kitchen and Gabriella cleared her throat. I turned and looked at the two teenagers standing before me.
“Good evening miss, I came to bring Gabriella back home.” The boy said to me.
“Good, you must be the friend she was by.”
“Yes ma’am. My name is Maleek Martis. Are you Nicki Minaj?”
“mmhmm…. So what did you guys do.”
“Mostly get to know each other and she helped me out with my writing assignments and how I could improve them.”
“Okay, well it was nice meeting you. Are you staying for dinner?”
“Uhm, if that’s okay with you.”
“Sure, as long as your parents know.”
“Okay, I’ll call.” He replied and walked away. I then looked at Gabby. She was once again typing away on her phone.
“How was school today?”
“Was alright. Got two A+’s on my writing assignments and a 8,5 for my Dutch Reading Comprehension. “
“Oh okay, we both know it could be higher.”
“I’ll try harder.”
“Good, well your friend seems like quite the gentleman.” I said and nudged her. She giggled and turned bright pink.
“Y-yeah.” She stuttered.
“Is he your new crush?”
“What? N-no. I have Zaire. That’s enough.” She replied and looked down. I knew she liked the boy, but also knew that she and Zaire were a very rooted couple. Nothing could break them.
“Well, if you say so little lady.” I said with a british accent and she giggled. Right then Dad walked through the door.
“So I walk inside and find a stranger in the house. Someone explain to me what he’s doing here.” He said before placing a passionate kiss on mom’s lips.
“That’s my friend Maleek.”
“Oh, where’d you meet him?”
“At school.”
“Yall have classes together?”
“Well only English literature.”
“Who’s his parents?”
“I don’t know. Why don’t you ask him?” she replied irritated and walked off. He then turned to me and I turned to the pot. He snaked his hands around my waist and kissed the nape of my neck.
“Smells nice.”
“Thanks, we’re gonna eat soon.”
“Good, I’m starving.” He growled into my ear which made me giggle. Maleek walked in a moment after. Safaree immediately let go of me.
“My parents say it’s okay.” He said happily.
“Okay, well make yourself at home. We’re gonna eat in a few.” I replied.
At the table, Safaree questioned Maleek and of course at first Maleek was terrified but after me and Gabriella reassured him, he seemed to relax.
“I still can’t believe that your mom is Nicki Minaj Gabby.”
“Well better believe it boy.” She replied being cocky.
“Ah, it’s just you guys look nothing alike.”
“That’s because she’s not my biological mother.”
“Oh and him.”
“He’s not my biological father.”
“So your….”
“Adopted.”
“Oh wow.”
“Yeah.”
“Cool, but like how come no one at school knows?” he asked her.
“Because one they never asked. Two because I like things the way they are. I don’t get bothered.”
“That’s not true. Destiny bullies you.” He blurted and his and Gabby’s eyes grew wide. All of us stopped eating and watched Gabby, who now had her head down. “I’m so sorry Gabby, I didn-“
“Save it. You already said it.” She whispered at him while holding her palm up to his face. He kept his mouth shut. The rest of the meal was quiet. After Maleek left, Gabby ran upstairs and I heard her door slam shut. I guess, it was happening, and she didn’t even tell me. Made it seem as if every day was a good day. It hurt me to know that still she kept holding back.

I went into Gabby’s room to kiss her good night. She was sleeping funny and from what I could tell, she cried herself to sleep. It broke my heart to see my babygirl like this, but she just keeps holding these things back. It’s not good. I want to help her grow and she knows I’d do anything to see that pretty smile of hers. As I was placing her sheets over her, I was her wrists for the first time. All the lines. I couldn’t believe it. Why? Just why her?
I stayed in her room for about 5 minutes before going to me and Nicki’s. She was up reading her bible. It was so cute how she mouthed the words. She stopped and looked at me. She was smiling but it slowly faded when she saw I wasn’t smiling back.
“What’s wrong?”
“My babygirl cuts herself.”
She sighed before replying. “I know…”
“Why?”
“Stress and I guess the bully.”
“I’m going to talk to her in the morning before she leaves. I can’t have her doing this.” I answered and got in bed with Nicki. I wrapped my arms around her and within minutes we fell asleep. All I could think about was my baby girl being sad. I was going to change that.

I actually feel a lot better than before. Yeah, I got balled, thanks to that damn chemo therapy. I hated it. Made me nauseous and I no longer had any pink hair. It sucked. My mother went back to China, so it’s just me and my dad. He seems so depressed lately. I wish I could do something to make him smile, but I think the whole me having cancer, really got to him.
“Goeie morgen onze vechter. (Good Morning our fighter.)” Said my doctor. It made me giggle and my dad gave him a small smile.
“Morning.” I replied.
“So we’re speaking English today?”
“Yeah, I miss it.”
“Oh well alright.” He said and smiled. There was something in that smile. Something good and it had me feeling good inside. I mentally crossed my fingers. “So we’ve gone through your recent MRI scan, and it seems as if we’ve been able to control the cancer abit. If it continues to get better, than I can dismiss you for about 3 weeks to a month. But first we need to monitor it for the next two months. ” He said and I squealed. My father began to cry happy tears. It made me want to cry, but I didn’t.
“So, in April I can go home?” I asked and he nodded his head indicating yes.
“Daddy, pass me yuh phone.” I said, my sint-maarten accent thick.
He gave it to me and I immediately called Nicki. It’s funny that he still has her number in his phone. That’s the fun about parents that don’t know much about technology. I mentally counted back 6 hours to Sint Maarten time then 3 hours back to Los Angeles. It was now 2 A.M. I giggled to myself. I always seemed to call when it was really early in the morning. The phone rang about 6 times before Nicki answered.
“H-Hello?” She answered out of breath.
“Hi.” I replied abit confused. What the hell was she doing at 2 in the morning?
“Zaire?” she whispered.
“Yuhp, that’s me.” I replied and I heard a bunch of rustling before she answered me.
“What’s up babygirl, how are you?”
“Well I feel a lot better. The doctor said they were able to get the cancer under control. If it keeps getting better, than I can go home in April for 3 weeks or even a month.” I squealed and I heard her squeal along.
“That’s great babygirl.”
“Yeah, so uhm I know this is abit weird, but uhm…. Can I speak to my girlfriend?”
“Well, you could but she’s sleeping. I don’t want to wake her up for her to start getting all cranky on me.”
“Oh, have you ever tried to sing her awake?”
“No, never thought of it.”
“Well, that’s the only easy way to wake her up.”
“Oh okay.”
“So, uhmm… put me on speaker please.”
“Okay, hold on.”
There was some rustling again. I heard Nicki open and close a door. Then again after a few moments.
“Okay, shoot. Am going to leave my phone with her, so take your time.”
“Aight, sorry for waking you.”
“Don’t be, your call is always important to us.” She replied and I giggled. I then began singing.
“Written in these walls are the stories that I can’t explain. I leave my heart open, but stays right here empty for days. She told me in the morning she don’t feel same about us in her bones. Seems to me when I die, these words will be written on my stone. And I’ll be gone gone tonight; the ground beneath my feet is open wide. The way that I’ve been holding on too tight, with no-“
“I can hear you.” I heard her mumble and I could tell she was smiling.
“Haha, I know. Hi baby.”
“Hey, what’s up?”
“Well, I think I can come see you in April, well hopefully.”
“Oh really. That’s great. I miss you too much.” She replied and I heard her sniffle.
“I know baby, I know. It’s killing me as well.”
“Why did you leave? What’s wrong?” She asked me and sniffled. I looked at the phone confused. I told her. Well emailed her about this. How could she not know?
“Babe, I told you why already. I emailed you. The same email where I said I felt the same way you felt about me.”
“I never read such thing.” She replied.
“But that’s strange, I sent you an email. And you always reply to my emails. Coming to think of it, you never replied to that one.” I said and gasped.
“That’s because I didn’t read such an email.” She replied abit frustrated.
“So she doesn’t even know I have cancer?” I mumbled my thought out loud without realizing it.
“What did you say?” She asked.
“Baby.. I-“ I started but the line went dead. I looked at the phone confused and realized I pressed the end button. I was scared; I didn’t want to have to tell her. It would break her. That’s when it happened. I cried my eyes out. I was pissed, pissed because I was scared to tell my best friend who’s now my girlfriend what I emailed her. I just wished I could hold her right now and just cuddle. I miss her. All of her. And I know she was dying inside without me. Why did life need to be this way?

“Gabby…. Gabriella… Gabby….” I heard someone calling my name faintly. I am so tired. We had to make so much stops and I barely slept. Probably fell asleep 2 hours ago. “Gabriella get up!” the voice yelled. I groaned and opened my eyes. Nicki was standing over me. Her bodyguard was standing by the entrance of the jet. Nicki giggled noticing how upset I was. “Hi baby, we’re finally here.” She said smiling.
“Great.” I groaned.
“Yeah, let’s go.” She answered and started to walk away. I was not going to walk. I done did too much of that within 24 hours with all the times we stopped. Nicki noticed I wasn’t getting up.
“Carry me please?” I asked with a baby voice. Nicki giggled and picked me up. We then began walking to the car.
“Wow, well you’re not as heavy as I thought.”
“Ofcourse not.” I replied.
She laid me out on the backseat and placed my head on her lap. I instantly fell asleep.

We arrived at the house and all my friends were inside. I don’t remember telling anyone about Gabriella so I wondered how they knew.
“Hey can you brings our suitcases in my room?”
“Sure thing miss.” My bodyguard replied.
I picked up Gabriella and brought her inside. Her head was resting in my neck. My big baby. And I lover her so much. I am going to spoil her.
As I walked through the door, I could already hear Candi’s voice. It brought a smile to my face. I missed my friends. Gabriella shifted abit and let out a sleepy groan. She didn’t wake so I quietly walked up the stairs. My friend Sharika noticed me and yelled,” Hey, waddup homie.”
Gabriella woke up startled and nearly fell out of my grip. Her eyes opened wide before she started breathing really hard. Sharika noticed and watched me confused. She just stood still.
“Hey babygirl, it’s okay. She didn’t mean to scare you.”
“Uhg, she already did.” She sniffled. Aww. Her eyes twinkled while brimming with tears. She then motioned for me to put her down and she ran up the stairs. At the top, she stopped and looked at me. I giggled. She didn’t know where to go. So polite to wait on me.
“Second door on your left. I’ll be up in a minute.”
“Okay. I’m going to get some sleep.” She said and yawned. I giggled and blew her a kiss. I then turned to find Sharika, Candi, Thembi and Lauren watching me confused.
“Explain.” Lauren says to me.
“Well, nice seeing you guys too. Let’s go to the kitchen first shall we?”
“Yeah whatever, get to the explaining.” Thembi answered.
We got into my kitchen and sat around the table. I poured myself a glass of orange juice and then faced them.
“Well, that’s Gabriella. I adopted her.”
“Okay, how old is she?” Candi asked.
“She’s 16.” I replied and they all gasped.
“Naw, you lying. She’s 12 or 13. She too small to be 16. And what’s up with her. She got something?” Thembi says.
“No I’m not lying. She really is 16. She has a birth defect.”
“Oh, what kind?” TT asks.
“Spina Bebida or something like that. She also has a scoliosis. That’s why she’s so short.” I replied and before I really got a grip of it, I started tearing up.
“What’s up girl?” Sharika then asks softly while placing a hand on my shoulder.
“What was I thinking? I’m a bad mother. How will I be able to help her? She’s going to get teased and that other stuff.” I sobbed.
“Well listen, I believe you know what you’re doing. She looks like a sweet girl and I know you’ll figure it out and if anything, you know you always have us and you’re family.” She replied and the others shook their heads in agreement. It made me smile. Got to love your best friends.
“Where’s Safaree?” Lauren askes.
“He’s still in St. Maarten. He’s staying an extra week.” I reply and rolled my eyes.
“Oh okay, guess he needed his space or something eh?” Thembi asks.
“Yeah that exactly.”
“How did he feel about Gabriella?” she asks.
“Well, they hit off really well. She calls him daddy already. She really likes him.” I replied and shrugged. Then sighed. “Can we please talk about something else? Please?”
The girls watched me funny before changing the subject. They told me about how they heard me on the radio in St. Maarten. And how funny the interview was. I laughed along. We then walked out to the pool and just relaxed. I was tired but I didn’t want to show it. We spoke for like a half hour and somewhere between us laughing, Gabriella came outside. She rubbed her eyes and yawned. She had on her bathrobe and slippers. Her hair was a mess, and I knew it would be a lot of work to comb out. She had on glasses, something I never saw her wear before. She looked around and I could tell she instantly got shy.
“Hi sleeping beauty.” I say and smile.
“No am not beautiful, I probable look like the lion king having a bad hair day.” She replied and the girls laughed which made her blush.
“Oh okay then. You hungry?”
“Only reason I woke up actually.”
“So aren’t you going to introduce yourself?" I asked and she looked scared. She took a deep breath and watched all my friends in the face.
“Uh… H-hi I’m Gabriella but you can call me Gabby.” She said all cutesy.
My friends replied and they all said their names.
“So baby, what you want to eat?” I ask her.
“I don’t know. You choose.” She replied.
“How about popeye’s?” Thembi asked her and she looked at her confused.
“W-what’s that?” She asks and we all literally watched her dumb-founded.
“You kidding right?” I ask her.
“Nope what’s that?”
“You know KFC?”
“Sure, but I don’t like chicken. Well only in pasta and subway.” She replied and smiled
“Oh wow, well uhm you want a sub?”
“Sure. I would like a foot-long white Italian bread, with Teriyaki chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese, cucumber and barbecue sauce please.”
“Oh okay, well I’ll get it. You guys want anything? “Sharika asked and all of us tell her our order. She wrote it all down and left. Gabby stood awkwardly so I motioned for her to sit by me. She walked over to me and sat on my lap. I giggled. She really was shy.
“So tell us abit about yourself.” Candi asked her with a smile. She nodded and began to speak.
“Well I was born on the 26th of September. I am from St. Maarten. I have no siblings. I lived with my parents. Well until two weeks ago, when I met Nicki.” She said and blushed and hugged me. I hugged her back and stroked her hair.
“So how did you two meet actually?” Lauren asked me.
“Well through the phone first, and officially in my hospital room.” She replied and fiddled with her fingers.
“The phone? Explain that?”
“Well my best friend Zaire, well her father actually, works at the airport. Zaire knew how much of a Nicki Minaj fan I am so she promised me she’d call me when Nicki arrived.” She replied then stopped. I heard her breath in and sniffle. As the first tear came down her cheek I wiped it. “Sorry, it’s just that I miss Zaire so much. I have no idea where she is. All I know is that something is wrong.” She said and another tear fell. She then placed her head in my chest and sobbed. I sighed and rubbed her back. I wish I could tell her, but that would just ruin the moment.
"Oh, shhh. It's okay. I bet she'll be alright." Candi replied.
A few minutes later, Sharika came back and everyone ate in silence. Gabriella excused herself and me and the girls talked for a while. After about 30 minutes, i realized Gabby still didn't return. I excused myself from the girls to look for her.
I went up into my room and she wasn't there. I then checked my bathroom, she wasn't there either. I panicked abit and just as i was going to call her name, I heard her tiny footsteps in one of the nearby rooms. I checked in one of the guest rooms and she was in there. She was standing on the balcony with her back towards me. Her head was bowed and she had something in her hands.
I could hear her sniffling softly. I quietly walked unto the balcony. Gabby let her right hand drop to her side and between her fingers, she held a now bloody blade. I gasped loudly and she turned around.
"W-what's wrong? Why are you doing this babygirl?" I asked as I swiftly took the blade away from her.
"What's wrong huh? Want to know what's wrong?!" she asked me, her voice raising with each word. "What's wrong is that I can't keep being this fake happy towards you while I know that you know something that you ain't telling me about Zaire. You don't seem to understand just how much I love and care about and how much it's killing me to know what the hell is going on with her!" she yelled at me and ran into the bathroom with me right on her heel. I pressed against the door so it wouldn't close, but it didn't help somehow she still got it closed and locked it. I could clearly hear her sobbing now. I wanted to put an en to this.
I went back downstairs to find the girls packed and about to leave. We said our good byes and i escorted them out. I then locked the front door and threw the bloody blade in the garbage. I sighed and went up the stairs and wait on Gabriella to come out. As I was sitting on the bed, her phone vibrated. I looked at it and picked it up. It was Safaree calling. I answered it and put it on speaker.
"Hey pumpkin!" He said happily.
"No, she locked herself in the bathroom faree."
"Oh, god. Nic, what did you do?"
"Nothing." I whispered. He sighed.
"Bring me to the door. I'm going to talk to her."
I bring the phone by the door. Gabriella was now sniffling. I think she's sitting with her back against the door.
"Babygirl, talk to me."
"I-I'm .... I can't do this daddy."
"Do what?"
"She's hiding something daddy. I can feel it."
"Look baby, remember when you aske me about Zaire?"
"Yeah, well remember what I said. She just nees time. She's trying not to hurt you, so be patient okay?"
Gabriella unlocked the door and took her phone. "O-okay. I love you."
"Love you too princess. Now let me talk to the queen real quick."
"Okay." she replied and handed me the phone. She then walked back out to the balcony and sat down. I sighed before taking the phone off of speaker and placing it by my ear.
"Diga me."
"Well I miss you. The place is too quiet for me."
"Then come home."
"I am."
"Huh?"
"Go open the door baby."
I ran downstairs and opened the front door. There he stood with a bundle of roses.
"Baby!" I screamed and a few seconds later, Gabby ran up to him.
"Daddy!!!!" she yelled and he held her close. He kissed our foreheads and we all went back inside.
We talked and laughed. Then Safaree yawned.
"Alright, I know both of yall tired especially you baby." he said and looked me directly in the eyes. I giggled. I was tired but I was fighting it.
"C-can I sleep with you guys tonight?"
"Sure babygirl, let's go."
We all walked up the stairs and showered one by one. We all put on our Pj's and crawled into bed. I held Gabby as Safaree held me.
"Sleep tight." She whispered to us and yawned.
"The same."
And we all fell asleep.
